swamp oak for firewood vs red oak

Post by new jersey firewood guy » August 3rd, 2010, 12:18 pm

In trying to describe the firewood properties of the various oaks (in relation to each other), white oak is always the best and then red oak, but where does swamp oak (also known as swamp white oak)fall in the firewood btu chart. I have not been able to find any references to this quite common oak tree we have around here. When people hear the word "swamp oak", they tend to hesitate before burning it. I would like some definitive sources, or even experienced stories.
