Unless that wood is being placed in a kiln your probably getting green wood.

Split hardwood will need to sit for at least six good summer months in the open sun to bring it somewhere close to 20% moisture content.

Went to the local firewood retailer and asked for a cord of wood. Was told they didn't have any ready now. When I did not want to order an alternate type of wood I was told they had some there, but it would not be ready for a few weeks. I thought wood had to dry out for a few weeks, how could it be ready in weeks time?
